The Sofia Opera is host of the Anastas Petrov Ballet Competition – The Life Today Newspaper
From 17 to 19 June the young artists will show the best of the Bulgarian school
On 17 June on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet will be given the start of the most authoritative national competition in the field of classic dance – the National Meeting of Young Ballet Dancers “Anastas Petrov” 2019. The beginning was in 1982, and the concept was, competing, the hopes of ballet to pay respect to the contribution of Anastas Petrov – the first master, recognized as patriarch of Bulgarian ballet, who was born and grew up in Dobrich. The forum is organized by the Varna International Ballet Competition Foundation, with the kind cooperation of the Ministry of Culture, the Dobrich Municipality and the Sofia Opera and Ballet and is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Dobrich. In the period 1999-2008, the management has been taken by both cities – Sofia and Dobrich. In the spirit of preserving of its rich cultural traditions, the Dobrich Municipality restored the management of the Meeting from 2010 to 2017.
Тhe XIXth edition of the National Meeting, however, will be held in Sofia, in order to gather the entire ballet community around the anniversary which will be celebrated – the 120th Anniversary of Anastas Petrov. “The ballet companies in entire Bulgaria plan to pay respect to the Maestro”, shared Dimitar Dimitrov, President of the Varna International Ballet Competition Foundation. “To put an accent on the jubilee and raise the level of the competition by involving a bigger part of the ballet community, we shall hold this edition in Sofia on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. We believe that this way the Meeting will turn into a celebration of national importance, dedicated to the first founder of Bulgarian ballet.”
The purpose of the Meeting is to give a chance to the young dance talents to manifest their successes and talent in a noble competition, as well as to be presented new works of the Bulgarian ballet.
For them the chance for appearance on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet could become a trampoline for a professional career.
The event is included in the Programme of the measures for protection of children with manifested talents for 2019. The dancers who will be awarded the Anastas Petrov Big Prize, first, second and third prize in Group “B” Junior age, students from class 8 to 12 till the age of 18, will be granted by the Ministry of Culture a one-year scholarship.
In the competition can take part young performers from the professional ballet companies, students from the secondary schools of arts and the ballet schools, in two groups – group “А” Senior age – at the age of 20 to 26, group “B” Junior age – at the age of 14 to 19. They can participate in the competition as soloists or in ballet couples, but in both cases the ranking is individual. To the competition will be admitted for participation not more than 60 competitors.
The first competition tour will be on 17 June and includes classical choreography from the obligatory programme, the second tour will be on 18 June 2019 with classical and modern choreography, and on 19 June will be handed out of the awards and will take place the Gala concert of the prize winners and the finalists.
As a national ballet competition, the Meeting supports and stimulates the artistic and performance development of the young ballet dancers.
