From 21 June to 14 July 2019 will take place the Tenth jubilee edition of the OPERA IN THE PARK festival. This summer feast is present on the cultural playbill of Sofia and integrates newer and newer spectator’s audiences to the magic of operatic and ballet art. The presentation in the open air in the natural surroundings in the park of the G. S. Rakovski Military Academy attracts the inhabitants and the guests of the capital city to a cultural space of a new type. Especially important is the acquaintance of the children’s and the youth audience with bright models of the opera and ballet classics.
In the festival’s editions from 2010 to 2018 were presented the operas Lakmé, Madama Butterfly, Norma, Atilla, L’elisisr d’amore, Don Carlo, Eugene Onegin, Les pêcheurs de perles, Turandot, La Cenerentola, the ballet spectacles Swan Lake, Giselle, Zorba the Greek, La sylphide, Carmen and Rhapsody in Blue, Don Quichotte, La dame aux camélias, Petrushka and The Firebird.
Parallelly with that was performed a rich programme for children: Little Red Riding Hood, Winnie-the-Pooh, Die Zauberflöte for children, The Grumpy Goat, Hänsel und Gretel, The Three Piggies, A story with Ducks, Mecho and Lisa and the ballets The Sleeping Beauty, La fille mal gardée and Cinderella.
Through a precise programming the festival demonstrates variety and promotes its highly artistic spectacles, performed by virtuoso singers and instrumentalists.
The project attracts also foreign language audience to which are offered English surtitles. The opera theatre developed during the years solid relations with leading touristic agencies, specialized in cultural tourism via which is being realized a mass advertising campaign in a series of international exhibitions.
The going outside of the formal box of the usual opera and ballet space provokes the artistic teams by the adaptation of the spectacles in the natural surroundings.
The OPERA IN THE PARK festival annually is a part of Sofia Municipality’s calendar of cultural events and is realized with the kind cooperation of the hosts of this significant event from the G. S. Rakovski Military Academy.
This year the Festival will be opened on 21 June at 20:00 h with a big jubilee concert in the programme of which are included popular masterpieces of the opera classics. Participants are soloists, chorus and orchestra of the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
